The Top Two: In two recent polls, Americans place the war in Iraq and the war on terrorism in the top two spots—just reverse the order. In a CBS News poll taken Aug. 11-13, the war in Iraq tops the list of the nation’s most important problems, say 28 percent of respondents. The terror war in general got 17 percent. An Aug. 17-21 poll sponsored by CBS News and the New York Times found that the war on terror was in the top spot (24 percent), squeaking past Iraq with 22 percent. (Coming in third in both polls was the economy.) According to the New York Times, the latter poll showed that 51 percent of respondents consider the war in Iraq and the war on terror to be separate activities.
